FAQ

Frequently
Asked Questions

How do I join Munchkins?

Please submit your child’s details and a clear photograph through our Apply Now link.

Once we have reviewed your application we will be in touch to let you know if we would like to conduct an interview.

Unfortunately, we cannot accept everyone who applies as this is dependent on the current mix of children we have in your child’s category at the time of application.

Due to Child Welfare travel time restrictions we will not accept applications from talent who reside more than 90 minutes from the CBD.

I've been accepted for an interview, what does this mean?

If you are invited for an interview, we are interested in the possibility of representing your child. We like to set up an interview to assess whether your child is suitable for potential work in the industry.

We are highly selective and only represent children who are confident and show potential, thus our reputation for supplying the industry with suitable children.

The interview is an opportunity for you to ask us questions you may have.

We encourage you to do as much research as possible as there are many facets to the industry and it is not suited to everyone.

Am I able to be registered with another agency?

Absolutely not!

We work very hard to promote your child under the banner of Munchkins and if you are listed with another agency we will not accept you onto our books.

Prior to accepting a place with Munchkins it is your responsibility to inform us if you are currently registered with another agency and that you have informed them in writing that you no longer wish to be represented by them.

Under NO circumstances are you permitted to join another agency during your time with Munchkins. If so, you will be immediately removed from our books.

How many children do you represent?

We do not accept all talent that apply for representation.

As a boutique agency we like to get to know our talent and provide personalised service whilst ensuring we always have enough variety to supply our clients.

Our numbers are capped dependent on demand in each age group. We therefore average between 10-20 kids per category, per state.

What kind of work will my child be submitted for?

We submit talent for all aspects of media and advertising:

  • Modelling (catalogues, runway, advertising, fit modelling)
  • TV commercials
  • Feature films
  • TV series
  • Voice over and radio
  • Theatre and stage production

Your child will only be submitted for work that he/she is suitable for. Once again, it is ultimately the client’s decision as to whom they’ll choose for their campaign.

Is work guaranteed?

We are unable to guarantee work as our clients make the ultimate decision as to whom they wish to book.

We only represent children who we believe have a good chance of obtaining work in the industry. It is our role to ensure that your child is put forward for all work he/she is suitable for.

When and where does the work take place?

Most of our assignments are scheduled during normal working hours, Monday to Friday.

The majority of work is located in studios close to the CBD areas of Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane. Some jobs do take place on weekends but this is a rare occurrence.

Please be aware that most work takes place during school hours and you must be 100% comfortable with this.

Flexibility and availability is essential to participate in the industry.

All work must adhere to Child Welfare Regulations which vary in each state.

Due to Child Welfare travel time restrictions we will not accept applications from talent who reside more than 90 minutes from the CBD.

How much can my child earn?

Rates are dependent on the job, role and exposure of the final product. Generally, photographic and catalogue work starts at around $100 p/hour, while TV commercials, TV series and feature films can start from $20 an hour and move into the thousands. In some cases loading and renewal fees may apply.

I live in Brisbane or Perth, is there much work here?

We have a smaller selection of talent on our books in Perth and Brisbane to ensure the supply of talent versus the demand of talent is met. This is because the market is generally quieter in comparison to the Melbourne and Sydney divisions, where the larger clients such as Myer, David Jones, Target, Kmart and BIG W are located.

Brisbane and Perth offer their own unique opportunities for film and TV, fashion parades, campaigns for local attractions, modelling for boutique clothing labels and festivals.

Is my child's information safe?

Safety and Privacy are of the utmost importance to us. We do not outsource any data entry or administration duties.

The Munchkins website is password protected and each child has their own unique Username and Password.

At no time do we give out your private information unless requested by the client for the process of confirmed work.

Child Welfare Regulations require that we notify the client of your child’s Medical status and provide School Exemption forms where applicable.

What do my fees include?

Munchkins charges one annual fee and no ongoing monthly fees.

Annual fees cover the initial set-up and registration on our books, a professional photographic shoot for the agency and promotion to our clients such as Casting Agents, Photographers and Major Advertising Companies. Fees also cover inclusion on our website for 12 months and maintenance of photographs and measurements on your child’s webpage and on the external platforms we use such as Casting Networks and TalentPay.

Once fees are paid in full, refunds are NOT given if you change your mind.

Is a contract required with Munchkins?

No, we do not have a contract however there are terms and conditions to be represented by Munchkins. Usually you stay listed with an agency for a period of 12 months as it does take some time to organise the internal photoshoot and get your child’s image promoted to the Industry Clients. Your representation with Munchkins can be mutually terminated between the parties in writing at any time, however refunds are not provided.

What commission do you take?

Munchkins deducts between 10%-20% commission plus GST from all work obtained.

Do I need a tax file number?

There is no need to obtain a TFN unless you are specifically instructed to do so. On occasions we need to send Tax File Declarations to our clients however a TFN is not needed for this form for persons under 16.

Munchkins is not your employer but merely acts as your agent.
